TRANSITION ISLAND KEY CONCEPTS

Independent - separate from party politics, personal ambitions, etc: instead driven by Community Action...

Community Action - not government, multi-nationals, 'experts', etc: but people who will continue to live here...

Local - groups of people within neighbourhood areas, reducing petrol use and other carbon footprint factors...

Sustainable - keeping the ecological cost of living within what the environment can provide in the future...

Resilience - our ability to survive major changes expected that will alter our currently comfortable lifestyles...

Skills - by using human nature at its best for creativity, drive, pride-in-achievement, humour, teamwork...

Inclusive - joining with everyone who wants to help and those already working on these problems...

Emerging - in an everyone-does-a-little-bit, no-one-pays-too-much, exploring-creativity-&-opportunity sort of way...

Transition Island will work best if our actions cooperate through a known set of guidelines. These may well evolve as we learn from experience. On the left are some of the key startup ideas.

The Internet is probably the most powerful tool we have to reduce our dependence on petrol driven transport.

The Transition Network mission is to inspire, inform, support and train communities as they consider, adopt and implement a Transition Initiative.

The Transition Island mission is to spark up Transition Towns on the Isle of Wight, and to start work on the Transition County - our county is an Island.

The Transition Islands Network is proposed to create support and encouragement for UK islands to work on their special vulnerabilities.
